We have completed five weeks of the Annual Diocesan Appeal, “Rejoicing in God’s Mercy, Together in Christ” to raise the funds to support our diocesan catechetical, liturgical, educational and social justice ministries, support the work of our bishop and the offices that support the parishes. Our diocese is made up of 54 missions and parishes that rely on the chancery, the central offices, for support, resources and assistance.
As Bishop McGrath outlined in the ADA video that highlights the work of our diocesan vocations and evangelization director, Fr. Joe Kim, the Social Justice Ministries and the need to support our retired priests; featuring some of the diocesan ministries. He said that “we are all in this together” to provide a vibrant, active, and effective church in the Diocese of San Jose. I am exceedingly grateful to the 148 families who have so far pledged $58,590 towards our diocesan goal of $76,636 bringing us to 78% of goal. We need an additional $18,177 to make our diocesan goal. Last year we had over 216 families participate in the campaign. With everyone’s participation we will reach our goal.
Remember every dollar received over our goal comes back to the parish for the ongoing maintenance and repair items that keep popping up. Just like your home, there is always something else that needs to be done.
Our diocese has the best pledge redemption rate for an annual diocesan appeal throughout the entire United States. At least 95% of all donor s fulfill their pledges. Your contribution directly benefits our parish and the other parishes and missions of our diocese through your generosity and sacrifices. I know this is not easy for all families immediately following the rectory capital campaign, but I do ask for your support. Please remember there is a monthly payment plan, paying down your pledge over ten months. Please consider a pledge of $400 or $40 dollars per month. With every household participating we will reach the goal. Besides supporting the parish all of us need to support the Bishop.
The Bishop recognizes the sacrifices of all the parishioners throughout the diocese and is grateful for those who are blessed and can make a major gift of $1,000 or more. Major donors are invited to a deanery reception where the bishop is present. We are very blessed to have Bishop Patrick J. McGrath for our bishop. As he writes, “I remember all of our families and loved ones in my daily prayer.” May we remember him in prayer as he remembers us.
If you have not participated yet, please do so as soon as possible because there are only three more weeks of the campaign after this weekend. Let’s reach our goal before the ninth week. Thank you.
